ADVOCACY DAY! (Formerly Lobby Day)
FEBRUARY 20, 2012
9am
All dental hygienists and dental hygiene students are invited to attend our 2012 Advocacy Day, presented by the Government Relations Council at the Capitol on Monday, February 20, 2012. The legislature officially convenes on February 1, 2012, so our Advocacy Day is early on in the session.
Advocacy day is an opportunity for you to meet with our lobbyist and learn about what ODHA is doing in Salem this year. It's also an opportunity to visit YOUR representative in the House and YOUR state senator and let them know what is important to you! President’s Day will be very busy at the Capitol but it will be a great time for you to become acquainted with your representatives in the legislature and to take advantage of the privileges of an Oregon citizen and a constituent.
We have reserved ROOM 50 (Basement/Ground level) at the State Capitol for for the orientation in the morning from 9 AM to 11:30 AM. Please join us there! The activities calendar will have our event listed and you can also stop at the Information desk in the rotunda for directions to the room.
If you would like to visit your elected officials, please call their offices and arrange for appointments in the afternoon or after 11:30 AM. To find your State and US legislators click on this website http://www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr/. Just fill in the form, click “submit” and you will be given your legislators contact information. Don’t worry, you can also ride along with someone else!
Paul Cosgrove, ODHA’s lobbyist and legal counsel, will provide attendees with materials (talking points) and go over things to discuss with our representative such as what RDHs and EPDHs do, locations to practice and increasing workforce for better access. This orientation will provide you with all the information you need and any questions you may have will be answered at that time. This is also a great introduction to what ODHA is doing for all hygienists at our state capitol!
Please talk to your colleagues and invite them to participate as well. We welcome all RDHs and students to be part of the Lobby Day activities.
Help is also needed at the ODHA table which will be located in the Galleria from 8am to 3:30pm. Please contact Lynn Ironside lynnci@msn.com to volunteer or with other questions.
Need directions to the Capitol? Go to http://maps.google.com/ and type in 900 Court Street Northeast, Salem, OR 97301
Or click here for driving and parking directions. Because this is a holiday, all street parking is free, so come early to get the best spots!
Once you're out of your car click here for a map of the capitol so you can find our room!.
SEE YOU THERE!!
Lobby Day Update
2011
Lobby Day at the Capitol on Monday, February 21st 2011 (President’s Day), was most successful due to the attendance of many Dental Hygienists and Dental Hygiene students. Thank you to all who made the effort to be part of advocating for our issue, HB 2384, a bill to establish, in statute, a Dental Hygiene Committee of the Oregon Board of Dentistry. It was a record turnout for the chance to talk about important issues. With a higher participation level than in past sessions, we have effectively raised the visibility of Dental Hygiene and our contribution to the prevention of oral disease. The attendance at this event definitely MADE A DIFFERENCE!
The date of next year’s lobby day is February 20, 2012, and Room 50 on the ground floor of the capitol has been reserved for this event. Please mark this date on your calendar NOW.
Thank you to all who took the time to be a part of this most important step in advocating for our cause.
Please don’t miss the opportunity to participate in DENTAL HYGIENE DAY next year!
