MARION, POLK AND YAMHILL DENTAL HYGIENISTS GIVE BACK!
February is Children's Dental Health Month
and We Love to Volunteer at the Salem Boys & Girls Club

Thank you, Thank you, thank you to each of you for your incredible work and dedication!
THE SALEM BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB DENTAL CLINIC
From the time the first steps were taken to create the dental clinic at the Boys and Girls Club, members of MPYDHA have been involved. Area dental hygienists have provided input into the design and function of the clinic. It has taken several years for this clinic to come to fruition and it has finally happened. Not only has MPY donated money to make this clinic happen but members have also volunteered their time for screening and treatment days. MPY challenges all of you to take at least one day out of your busy life to volunteer at this clinic. If you are available on a specific date to volunteer, please contact Jodi Loper, CDA, EFDA, Health Services Coordinator at 503-581-7383 or Email: jloper@bgc-salem.org
VOLUNTEERING
Along with the Boys and Girls club there are several volunteering opportunities for you. Give Kids a Smile Day, The Annual Amity Elementary School Dental Clinic and the Medical Teams International Dental Van. The Amity Dental Clinic was held this year on February 23rd. Every year more and more children are treated at this event. Last year there was almost $5000 worth of care done. This year more than $6000. One of our own members Michelle Aldrich, who is also a dentist in West Salem, created and keeps this annual event going. MPY actually won a National ADHA Community Outreach Award for this clinic. This year we took education to the classrooms while treatment (sealants, prophy’s, fluoride treatment etc…) was provided on the dental van.
We've had nothing but positive feedback from anyone who has ever volunteered on any of the dental van outings. Look for this and other opportunities coming up in the next year. The community needs you and your skills!! For more information on dates and times please contact Sharon Crawford, flosschick_rdh@yahoo.com MPY’s Volunteer Coordinator or Denny Sanders, dsanders@medicalteams.org Mobile Dental Unit Manager for Medical Teams International. Thank You!!
MENTORSHIP
MPY has always been dedicated to helping newer graduates through the transition from student to professional. I think we can all remember how scary it was to begin a new career, so full of questions and unsure on how to reach out and ask for help. Come to any of the MPY Dental Hygiene meetings to meet other hygienist in the area. You will be surrounded by the support and resources you need.
HOSPITALITY
Michele Davidson will be working hard this year to make sure we have yummy things to munch on during meetings and events. Please adopt a date to help her out when she passes around a sign up sheet. Don’t worry if you forget what month you signed up for, she will be giving you a reminder call or e-mail. Thanks!
