Washington County Dental Hygienists’ Association
Continuing Education Course

Working with Nature to Make a Difference:
More than ever, patients seek products that deliver effective natural oral care. Dental professionals want to be prepared to answer patient’s questions about natural care products whether they are in regard to ingredient sensitivity, concerns for the environment or a belief in the efficacy of natural care.

This course will provide an introduction to natural oral care products and the science behind them. In addition, the broader commitment to environmental concerns and corporate social responsibility will be discussed.

WASHINGTON COUNTY DENTAL HYGIENISTS' ASSOCIATION
NEWSLETTER

Washington County is ready to go forward with an exciting 2007-08 schedule of meetings.

We have completed a great year of fellowship and meetings with Laura Smith and Lisa Morita as co-chair. Laura has served Washington County for the past three years as president. Lisa served as president the two years prior to that and has given her support on the planning committee. Sandi Curren is our new president for the up coming year.

The past year we have hosted meetings each month: September, October, November, January, February, March, April and May. In June we hosted a new hygienists picnic at the home of Mickey Nearhood with the graduating students from P.C.C. In February we had our bi-annual CPR class. Each of our regular meetings offers continuing education, fellowship and a brief business meeting. As a group we have donated money to Pacific Universities’ Dental Science program, the sealant program at P.C.C. and other projects. We have provided a Basket for the RDH-PAC at the Annual meeting. We are proud to have our meetings at the new Pacific Health Campus. We had our annual planning luncheon at the home of Lisa Morita to review our goals and set a schedule for the upcoming year.

We will continue to meet the second Tuesday of each month. Each course is worth one continuing education credit hour. There is a $15.00 fee for non-ADHA members for the continuing education credit, except where noted.

For more information please contact Laura Smith via phone 503-641-5622 or email lsmith3@gte.net

Member of Interest

2006 - Janet Young, RDH - WCDHA's longest standing active member Jan graduated from the University of Oregon Dental School in 1965. At that time the Oregon Dental Hygienists' Association was statewide. Washington County formed a component in the early 1970's, during a time when gasoline was difficult to get. Jan served as the organizing president, and has since then served two additional terms. She has served at the state level as Membership Chair, and two terms as State Secretary. She has also been a long-standing member of the Government Relations Committee, dating back to its formation in the late 1970's. In 1983, when the Dental Practice Act was rewritten, Janet worked in the Legislature as a legislative assistant and got to work first hand with the committee. In 1985, when the Dental Board went before the Sunset Review Committee, she served on staff in Salem. Currently, Jan serves as our component representative to the Board of Trustees, and as Chairman of the RDH-PAC. She also is serving on the Advisory Committee for the new Pacific University Dental Hygiene Program. She has actively worked in the county area as a clinical dental hygienist for over 40 years and was the third dental hygienist to receive the limited access permit in the state. Jan's other activities include Service Club, the United Methodist Church, League of Women Voters and numerous political campaigns and activities. Would she do it all over again? "YES!!! - a wonderful career to raise a family, give time to community service, meet interesting people and make life-long friends."

2005 - Jennifer Hamilton
