Learn more about ODHA's local, state and national advocacy and what it takes to be a good advocate for your industry and profession.
Lisa Rowley will present the basics of advocacy, the importance of partnerships, member engagement and positioning the issues for a positive outcome. This will be an interactive workshop with lots of discussion and participation.
 
This 6-hour workshop is intended for dental hygienists who want to become more involved in advocating for the dental hygiene profession in Oregon. Participants will learn and practice skills needed to effectively pursue regulatory changes to promote dental public health. At the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to:
  • Explain how dental hygiene practice is regulated in Oregon.
  • Review formats for proposed amendments to law & rules.
  • Assess support for and opposition to a proposed regulatory change.
  • Write an elevator speech for a proposed legislative bill.
  • Write testimony to present at legislative & rules public hearings.
  • Communicate with a legislator about a proposed legislative bill.
