As dental professionals, we are at a crossroads when it comes to standards of care and airway issues. Screening for sleep-disordered breathing is now recommended by the American Dental Association for all dentists to perform. This is a great start, but we should not stop there as orofacial myofunctional disorders such as a restricted tongue, low tongue tone and posture, poor lip seal, dysfunctional swallow, and mouth breathing can lead to sleep-disordered breathing and health issues. These can lead to poor jaw growth, tooth crowding, open bites, overbites, small airways, and much more. Come learn how you as a dental hygienist can increase awareness of these disorders, how to recognize them, and what you can do to help your patients.

Learning Objectives:
 Recognize signs of myofunctional disorders
 Explain the goals of myofunctional therapy
 Describe the possible health outcomes of myofunctional disorders
 Create an action plan for your patients

Methodology: With real-life case presentations and lively conversation, Kyle wows audiences with her real-life experiences of working with patients who have myofunctional disorders and shares her knowledge of what to look for so that we can go beyond the standard of care for our patients.

Speaker: Kyle Isaacs is an expanded practice dental hygienist (EPDH) working for Benton County providing dental hygiene care for low-income patients. She started a mobile dental hygiene business in 2014 taking care of low-income patients in a local church, long-term care facilities, schools, adult foster care homes, and private residences for patients who are not ambulatory. Kyle is an orofacial myofunctional therapist and started her business MyO2 Breathe to assist people on their journey to health. She writes a monthly dental blog for a local organization supporting families of young children and teaches the oral health unit for certification for community health workers. In addition to speaking, she is a published author in RDH Magazine and a recipient of the 2017 SUNSTAR Award of Distinction as well as the 2018 HuFriedy/ADHA Master Clinician Award. Kyle is a member of AADH, ADHA, ODHA, NNHH and ADHP.
