Course #1: Povidone Iodine: A Time-Tested Antiseptic with Renewed Focus in Dentistry (1 CE)

Speakers: Abigail Gaines SDH; Fartun Ibrahim SDH; Laura Garcia Tiburcio SDH; and Shannon Walsh from Elevate

This course delves into the clinical applications of povidone iodine in contemporary dental practice. We will explore the affordable, effective, and easy-to-use benefits of this World Health Organization-essential medicine. Learn how to leverage its antimicrobial properties to combat caries, periodontal diseases, and enhance patient outcomes.

Course #2: Ozone Therapy in Dentistry: A Deep Dive (1 CE)

Speakers: Alexis Magers SDH & Craig Agni SDH

Introduced to dentistry in the 1950s by a German dentist, ozone therapy has intrigued practitioners with its potential to selectively eliminate microbial cells while leaving human tissues largely unaffected. This course will delve into the current state of ozone therapy in dentistry, examining its applications in oral surgery, caries management, endodontics, and periodontal therapy. We will critically analyze the existing research, explore the arguments for and against its use, and discuss the future of ozone therapy in modern dental practice.

About the Speakers:

The first group are Pacific University senior students implementing their research capstone project. They are being sponsored and mentored by Shannon Walsh of Elevate Oral Care. The second group to present is also Pacific University seniors presenting their capstone project. Their mentor is a dental hygienist who works with Ozone therapy on a regular basis. Lesley Harbison RDH MS, an Associate Professor at Pacific University is their capstone advisor and will be overseeing their final project and attending the presentation with the students.
