Nutrition Effects on Health and Quality of Life- It’s True, You Are What You Eat!

Speaker:  Lori Brizee, MS, RDN

Bio Lori has been working in the field of nutrition for over 35 years. She has extensive experience in both pediatric and adult nutrition. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from University of California at Davis, and a Masters Degree in Nutritional Sciences from University of Washington, Seattle. She completed her internship to become a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist with an 18-month fellowship at the Center for Human Development and Disability at the University of Washington. Lori is continually updating her nutrition knowledge by taking part in multiple continuing education opportunities via professional journals, conferences and webinars. Since being in Bend, she has worked on improving her knowledge and skills in diabetes management, becoming a Certified Diabetes Educator in 2015.

Lori’s first 22 years of nutrition practice was mostly in pediatrics, first in the Women, Infants and Children’s program at the International District Community Health Center in Seattle, and then at Seattle Children’s hospital, where she specialized in Children with Special Healthcare Needs. In 2006, Lori moved to Bend and started Central Oregon Nutrition Consultants, where she worked with clients of all ages, specializing in diabetes, weight management and pediatrics. Lori closed Central Oregon Nutrition Consultants in 2018. She is now consulting in the pediatric office of Erika Beard-Irvine MD, seeing both children and pregnant women, and doing more writing and speaking. She teaches 2 classes in nutrition at OSU Cascades during Spring term.

Current areas of special interest for Lori include: intuitive eating (non-diet approach to health and wellness, including weight management for children and adults), optimal type 1 and type 2 diabetes management via diet, physical activity and medication (especially insulin titration), pediatric feeding/eating problems and the gut microbiome.

Lori is married to Bob Brydges and has two adult kids. She keeps active throughout the year with swimming, biking, skiing and walking/hiking. She also enjoys hanging out with her family, cooking and reading.
