The ODHA is building an online library of on-demand courses that oral healthcare professionals can complete on their own schedule. Below are courses from the Fall Education Series, which launched in September 2025. To register for the series or individual course offerings, complete the online registration form here. Registrants will have 90 days from the start of their course to complete the course and the knowledge quiz to receive their CEs. Each registrant will receive an ODHA account in which to track their continuing education courses. Presenter: Dr. Steven Beadnell Course Description: Medical emergencies can and do occur in dental practices every day. Over the next fifteen years the segment of the population at highest risk for medical emergencies, those 65 and older, will become a larger percentage of our patients. The entire dental team must be prepared to recognize and respond to a variety of medical emergencies that could be precipitated by the stress of the dental environment. This course will discuss the diagnosis, prevention, and management of common medical emergencies that might occur in dental offices. This course is appropriate for the entire dental team and meets the medical emergency education requirement of the Oregon Board of Dentistry for license renewal. Learning Objectives:

Presenters: Ilya Babiy, RDH, MS, EPP; Lori Killen Aus, RDHEP, MA, FADHA; Jennifer Aubry, RDH, MS, EPP; and Tracy Brunkhorst, RDH, EPDH, FADHA Course Description: This course is a panel discussion composed of dental professionals who have given of their time and talents to improve the well-being of people at home and around the world; and gained so much cultural enrichment in the process! Ilya Babiy, RDH, MS, EPP is a dental hygiene instructor at Mt. Hood Community College. He also serves seniors and those with special needs with his portable business, On-Site Oral Health Care, and co-founded Good News Dental, an Expanded Practice Dental Hygienist brick-and-mortar cooperative clinic in Rockwood. He earned his A.A.S. in Dental Hygiene at MHCC, B.S. in Dental Hygiene at OIT, and M.S. in Education from PSU. Ilya enjoys inspiring students to fulfill their dreams and make a difference in our world. Together with his wife and three children, he loves to travel, entertain family and friends, and explore the great outdoors.
Complications of Local Anesthesia (2 CEs) Course Description: Effective pain management is essential to comfortable patient care—but what happens when local anesthesia does not work as expected? Managing patient comfort while staying on schedule can be challenging and frustrating for both patients and providers. This course will explore the common causes of local anesthetic failure and equip you with practical strategies to address them. We will examine clinician-related factors, patient-related psychological and physiological barriers, and physical or chemical influences that may interfere with anesthesia. Additionally, we will review alternative injection techniques to help improve anesthetic outcomes. By the end of this course, you will be better prepared to make confident, informed decisions when managing local anesthetic complications in clinical practice. Learning Objectives:
 About the Presenter:Stacie graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 2011 and a Master of Science in Allied Health in 2023. She practiced clinical hygiene from 2011 until 2022, at which point she transitioned into academia. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Dental Hygiene Department at Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, where she serves as the junior clinical lead instructor. She also teaches pain management, head and neck anatomy, histology and embryology, pharmacology, and various clinical lab sessions.

Monica Emmons is the Senior Region Specialist, Chairside solutions for DENTSPLY SIRONA. Monica attended Portland Community College, Eastern Washington University and Kings College London, UK. Monica’s focus is to provide professionals with current concepts, technology and evidence-based research to assist in implementing effective and efficient evidence-based treatment protocols for clinical practice. Monica has more than 35 years clinical experience in both periodontal and general practices and 20 years dental hygiene education. Monica was Clinical Educator for Dentsply Sirona for over 6 years and served as adjunct faculty at Portland Community College Dental Hygiene program. |
Dr. Beadnell was raised in Oregon and received his undergraduate degree from Oregon State University. In 1980, he achieved his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry. Following his dental education, Dr. Beadnell served for 4 years as a practicing general dentist in the United States Air Force. He completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1988 at David Grant USAF Medical Center at Travis Air Force base in California. Dr. Beadnell served three years on staff in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department while in the United States Air Force at Scott AFB, Illinois, a regional medical center that gave him a wide range of experience in all aspects of oral surgery. After serving 11 years in the USAF, Dr. Beadnell began his private oral surgery practice in Portland, Oregon, in 1991. Dr. Beadnell actively pursues continuing education courses and has lectured extensively to various dental groups throughout the Pacific Northwest. He is an active member in several local and state dental and oral and maxillofacial surgery organizations. He is a past president of the Oregon Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Western Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the OHSU School of Dentistry Alumni Association.
